Your new role

As a Financial Counsellor Trainee, you will provide financial inclusion services aimed at providing information, options, support and advocacy to individuals, families and groups of consumers who find themselves in financial difficulties while also studying for the Diploma of Financial Counselling.

Some of the role’s objectives include:

  • To provide financial counselling intake support and administration.
  • To provide tailored responses to consumers from varied backgrounds and levels of disadvantage to help build financial literacy.
  • To build referral pathways and collaboration in provision of support to consumers and their families.
  • Community education and promotion of Uniting’s financial counselling services.

Your skills and experience
  • Currently studying or enrolling within a 2 month period of role commencement for the Diploma of Financial Counselling
  • Current Student membership or applied for withing 1 month of enrolment of the Diploma of Financial Counselling with Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic)
  • Full Driver’s licence
  • An understanding of a financial counselling or related role and an understanding of issues relevant to the community service sector.
  • An understanding of casework issues as related to the target group, including an awareness of financial hardship, family violence and cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of:
    • Energy and/or financial literacy information to residential households, community groups and other related organisations, 
    • Respectfully discuss billing/financial issues, and 
    • Advocating payment arrangements and access to consumer schemes and other services.
