Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a social worker to join our Adoption and Permanent Care team, working across the Permanent Care Program, Adoption Program and Concurrent Care Program.

As a Case Worker you will:

  • Oversee recruitment, training and assessment of carers
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of children referred to the program and shortlist placements for children
  • Offer relinquishment counselling support to birth parents in the infant adoption program
  • Provide information and counselling to adopted people and their families in relation to past adoptions
  • Provide pre and post-legal supervision and support to children, their carers and birth families

Your skills and experience

You will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a degree qualification in Social Work and eligibility for membership of A.A.S.W, or equivalent Psychology or a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated case management and counselling experience within the child and family welfare sector, particularly in out of home care, child protection or adoption services
  • Proven competence in child and carer assessments and supporting placement processes for children in out of home care
  • An understanding of the Best Interests Framework, Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and Adoption Act 1984
  • Excellent written skills with the ability to maintain case notes and prepare reports in a timely manner
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
