About the opportunity

At 121 Youth Refuge, we are dedicated to providing high-quality care and support to young people aged 16 – 20 who are experiencing homelessness. Our 24-hour voluntary residential program is designed to offer a safe and supportive environment for young individuals with various support needs, including those related to past trauma and abuse.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Team Leader to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for leading, supporting, and inspiring a team of dedicated staff to deliver exceptional care and services within our youth refuge setting. You will work within a trauma-informed framework to ensure that all services are provided in alignment with our business plans, funding body agreements, accreditation, program standards, practice frameworks, and legislative requirements.

As Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of staff members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Ensure high-quality care is delivered to young people, addressing their complex needs with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Work within a trauma-informed framework to support young people in their journey towards stability and well-being.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating a deep understanding of the challenges faced by young people experiencing homelessness.
  • Safely assess and manage risk within the program, ensuring adherence to all relevant standards and regulations.
  • Participate in the on-call roster and provide afterhours or weekend support as needed.

About you

You will have a minimum qualification of Diploma of Community Services or a recognised relevant equivalent qualification (essential). A tertiary qualification in Community Services will be highly regarded.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated leadership/Team Leader experience in the Youth homelessness sector
  • Experience in the residential and community services field and in the provision of care and support to children and young people who have experienced homelessness or ‘out of home care’
  • Demonstrated ability as a team leader, supervision skills and ability to conduct staff supervision and appraisals
  • Experience in working with vulnerable young people, preferably in a residential care setting
  • Demonstrated capacity to relate to clients and other stakeholders with dignity and respect
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of issues, policies, legislation, and practices in relation to child and family welfare and youth in Residential Care
