Your new role

Join the Whittlesea Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals (WMHWL), an innovative community mental health service delivered by Neami in partnership with Uniting and Drummond Street Services. As an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Peer Support Worker, you'll use your lived experience of substance use and recovery to provide hope, practical support, and connection to people navigating similar challenges. Working alongside clinicians, peer workers, and community partners, you'll empower individuals to achieve their recovery goals through a holistic, person-centred approach in a service where lived experience is valued and recovery is at the heart of everything we do.

Your skills and experience

You will have a relevant qualification in a health and/or welfare related discipline, or equivalent experience is desirable, but not essential. You will also have:

• Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or AOD core competencies (or willingness to complete the core competencies within the first 24 months of employment).
• Intentional Peer Support training (or willingness to complete within the first 12 months of employment).
• Lived experience of substance use and accessing public AOD services.
• Experience supporting people and families affected by alcohol and other drug use in a respectful, compassionate, and strengths-based way.
• Previous experience in a peer support, AOD, or mental health support role (desirable but not essential).
• Strong emotional resilience and the ability to support people experiencing distress or crisis.
• The ability to work independently, communicate effectively with diverse communities, and maintain confidentiality.
• A commitment to reflective practice, ongoing learning, and professional development.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, along with sound computer literacy.
